Staying in Motion: Try new things & learn the lessons
Nurse alchemy best describes my RN to DNP journey filled with nursing nuggets and learned life lessons. Let's blog about nursing! This is definitely something new since like a lot of you, I have been focused on jumping from degree to degree while climbing the hospital leadership ladder. After almost 20 years with a mix of bedside nursing and management experience, I thought I'd venture out a bit. Staying in motion... is how I tend to function with life in general. No need to dwell on the past, don't worry about the future (within reason), but do what needs to be done in the present moment. I was told to let out my creative side in the form of journaling so here we go.
Guard your health
At the age of 22 and a new nurse, I realized how fragile life is. If you take care of patients who cannot move, do, or think for themselves then you know what I mean. You know that life can change in a hot second. The fact that we wake up in the mornings is a blessing. To be able to move freely, eat, and think is an even bigger blessing that I don’t take that for granted. The journey of my ADN to the DNP and beyond came along with all the life things many people often experience: leaving your parents’ nest, getting married, having kids, going through the marital problems that no one wants to live through, getting divorced and experiencing the pain while trying to ease up your kids’ pain, moving a few times, being broke and staying broke, working more than one job, watching your parents get sick and losing them…. you name it. But after enough lessons you learn to find yourself. Things suddenly start to get better.
I am in a better place now than years ago when the stress of life started showing up in the form of alopecia, pre-cancerous cervical cells, acne, and a mental and emotional whirlwind that I’m sure eventually would have hurt me more than I want to know. In the moments of silence, I defined a few goals and highlighted with certainty what matters to me most in life. I decided to go on this creative streak of writing it out as I strive for it. My goals include both personal and professional dreams that I’m working on turning into reality. I hope you that along the way, you find your own life lessons and define your own goals too. Thanks for joining me 🙂
