Personal Development
In this journey of making my idea come to life in the form of a tool to help with pressure ulcer prevention, I make sure to keep myself inspired. This is not due to lack of motivation but because the process takes days, weeks, months, or even years. Patience is a virtue, and it is important to keep reminding myself of my purpose in life. Do you know your purpose? I have recently figured mine out for this decade of life and it is more of a question: How can I serve more patients and nurses all at once? I am curious to know how many people have found their purpose.
Thank you for reading this post, don’t forget to subscribe!Personal development is a way to stay inspired through constant learning. I especially like the teachings of Jim Rohn and Podcasts such as the School of Greatness. If you listen carefully to different motivational, New Age, spiritual, finance and business savvy people, the key to growth is to be at ease with what you love doing. Pick something that you love and become really good at it. Offer your help, your services, knowledge to the world and the path will be shown to you. Follow your gut, stand for your beliefs, and believe in yourself more than anyone else. What I heard today from Jim Rohn is that a good library should include books about wealth, health, culture, history, and philosophy. I just ordered 3 Amazon books to add to my history and philosophical knowledge. What other books do you have in yours? I’ll take pointers.
Finding Your Why
Finding you ‘why’ has to be a priority, I think. What is worth living for? What is worth dying for? I often wonder what drives people. I can tell you that my kids, family, and nursing purpose are both worth living for. My family and my freedom are worth dying for. In a process that takes time to be fruitful, I often remind myself that I am living my purpose. My goal is that this tool one day clearly shows to be of assistance in preventing pressure ulcers for our patients. If you have ever had a family member in the hospital, you know that there is nothing else disturbing your peace of mind other than wondering the status of your loved one. You not only want the best outcomes given whatever is going on medically, but you also hope with your heart that they are receiving the best care possible. You hope they are receiving kindness and attentive care. In the professional nursing world, my why is the question of how can I serve more patients and peers at once? On a personal note, I feel the need to grow my creative side and show my kids a way of life that is not stagnant nor conforming. A joyful life in my opinion, comes from following your hearts desires. I am not quite sure how this project will end up but I am willing to share the journey without fear of failing to what I now consider my goal destination. Every time I started something out of my comfort zone, it either brought me to my heart’s desire or to something better.
The Habit of Consistency
I have found that when you consistently work on something, there is no other result besides progress. Progress can be at different levels and time intervals, but it happens. I remember when my younger self pondered what it would be like to compete a Doctoral degree. At that time, I may have been taking the prerequisites for my associate degree in nursing. I remember thinking a Doctorate degree was a dream and probably difficult to achieve. As I look back today, years have passed, and I completed the program 3 years ago. Yes, it took work so by no means was it easy, but it’s done now. It took one day at a time, but time passed, and I completed it. My mom always supported me and told me ‘time will pass regardless, do what you need to do’. In great part I learned consistency from my mother. The grit of not giving up. When I was little, she started a house cleaning business and knocked on many doors and eventually enough opened. That’s what I live by. When a door closes, I think it only makes me more determined. I’m also a Sagittarius: tell me I can’t do something, and I’ll prove you wrong just because.
I have seen the same results with improving my diet, exercise, and thoughts. What I have gotten out of consistency is a gradual progression towards my goals. Patience truly is a virtue, and I am excited to see where this project ends up. Let’s work on being consistent!
